Privacy Policy
Kaitaku collects no personal data. This page explains what that means precisely.
Last updated: 28 August 2026
The short version: Kaitaku contains no networking code. It cannot send your data anywhere, because it never connects to anything.
What we collect
Nothing. Kaitaku does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Specifically, the app contains:
- no analytics or telemetry SDK;
- no crash- or error-reporting service;
- no advertising, tracking, or attribution identifiers;
- no user accounts, sign-in, email collection, or cloud sync;
- no third-party SDKs of any kind;
- no networking code, so no data can leave your device even accidentally.
This is why Kaitaku is listed as Data Not Collected on its App Store privacy label.
What stays on your device
Kaitaku stores your study progress — review history, scheduling state, streak, settings, and any words you add to your own study list — locally on your iPhone, inside the app’s private storage. We never see it. It is included in your device backups if you have iPhone backups enabled, under your own Apple account and subject to Apple’s terms rather than ours.
Deleting the app deletes this data permanently. There is no server copy to request, export, or erase, because none was ever made.
Camera
Kaitaku includes an optional object-labelling feature that uses your camera to recognise everyday objects and show their Japanese names. It runs entirely on-device using an on-device model. Camera frames are processed in memory and are never recorded, stored, or transmitted. The feature only runs while you have that screen open, and iOS will ask for your permission before it can run at all. You can decline, and the rest of the app works normally.
Purchases
If you buy the optional course unlock, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Kaitaku never sees your name, payment details, or Apple account. We receive no purchase data from Apple beyond what iOS tells the app on your own device about whether the unlock is active. Apple’s handling of that transaction is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
Children
Kaitaku is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children under 13. Because nothing is collected, there is nothing to obtain parental consent for and nothing to delete.
This website
kaitaku.app is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and embeds no third-party scripts or fonts. Our host records standard server request logs (including IP addresses) for security and abuse prevention, as any web host does; we do not use them to identify or profile visitors. If you email us, we keep that email so we can reply to it, and for nothing else.
The one thing on this site you can give us is your email address, if you choose to sign up for beta invites on the home page. It is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure, used only to send TestFlight beta invites and a single launch announcement, never shared with anyone, and deleted after launch. To be removed sooner, email privacy@kaitaku.app from the address you signed up with.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. If a future version of the app were ever to collect anything, we would say so clearly here and in the app before it happened.
