Support

One person builds Kaitaku, and that person reads every email. Write to support@kaitaku.app and you’ll get a real reply.

Found a mistake in the Japanese? Please tell us — include the word or sentence and what’s wrong with it. Corrections are the most useful mail we get, and they get fixed in the next release.

Common questions

I bought the unlock and it’s not showing up

Open Settings inside the app and tap Restore Purchases. This asks the App Store to re-check your account, which is what’s needed after reinstalling the app or moving to a new iPhone. Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. If it still doesn’t appear, email us with the date of purchase and we’ll sort it out.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase. If Apple declines and you think that’s wrong, email us and we’ll do what we can.

How do I reset my progress?

Settings inside the app has a reset option, which clears review history and scheduling while leaving your purchase intact. Deleting the app removes everything on the device permanently — including your progress, which is not backed up to any server. Your purchase survives a delete and can be restored as above.

Can I move my progress to a new phone?

If you restore the new phone from an iPhone backup, your progress comes with it. Because there is no account or cloud sync, a fresh install on a new phone starts over — your purchase, though, restores from the App Store.

My streak broke and I did study that day

Streaks roll over at midnight in your device’s local time zone, so crossing time zones can shift a day. Kaitaku also gives free automatic grace days rather than charging to repair a streak — if something still looks wrong, email us.

The audio isn’t playing

Check that your phone isn’t in silent mode and that the app’s voice settings haven’t been muted. Kaitaku uses the Japanese voice installed on your iPhone; if speech sounds wrong or missing entirely, check that a Japanese voice is available under iOS Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices.

Will there be an Android or web version?

Not currently. Kaitaku is an iPhone app built for iOS 17 and later.

Is my data private?

Yes — nothing is collected at all. See the privacy policy.

Where the Japanese comes from

Kaitaku’s vocabulary and readings come from JMdict and Kanjidic2, stroke order from KanjiVG, and example sentences from Tatoeba — all openly licensed and credited in full under Acknowledgements in the app. The content is reviewed by a native speaker before release. If you spot an error anyway, the report above is genuinely welcome.
